Basic Self Defense Tips Every Woman NEEDS

In today's world, where violence against women is a harsh reality, it is crucial to be prepared for any dangerous situation. To empower and protect yourself, here are some basic self-defense techniques that can potentially save you from harm.


These situations have to be drilled. It’s very important to always be aware of your surroundings and stay calm in any situation. Practicing these scenarios will help you be familiar with the feeling of being in these situations. Most importantly know that you can be in control of any of these situations using these simple techniques.

If someone pulls your hair from the back…

1. Stay calm

2. Get into a fight stance base

3. With your two hands grab the assailant's wrist or hand that is pulling the hair

4. Turn away from their body and lower your stance (this will create a lever to twist and break away or break his/her arm)

5. Take two shuffle steps back in your fight or frame stance to get away

6. Vocalize your boundaries

7. Call for help

If someone grabs you by the wrist…

Variation A: (1 on 1) If someone grabs you with one hand


1. Stay calm

2. Get into a fight stance base (never pull away because you are pulling the assailant toward you or on top of you)

3. In a lowered fight stance push your elbow towards sky stepping into the assailant and their elbow (this will break the wrist grab).

4. Take two shuffle steps back in your fight or frame stance to get away

5. Vocalize your boundaries

6. Call for help


Variation B: (2 on 1) If someone grabs either wrist with 2 hands.


1. Stay calm

2. Get into a fight stance base (never pull away because you are pulling the assailant toward you or on top of you)

3. In a lowered fight stance you will grab your own fist of the wrist that is being controlled.

4. Pulling your fist as you push your elbow towards sky stepping into the assailants elbow (this will break the wrist grab).

5. Take two shuffle steps back in your fight or frame stance to get away

6. Vocalize your boundaries

7. Call for help

If someone pulls your bag or backpack...

1. Stay calm

2. Turn towards the direction of pull (This will make it more difficult for them to take your belongings)

3. Get into a fight stance base with your frame

4. Once you’re facing the assailant (if they’re still hanging on to your bag just let go because your life is more important)

5. Take two shuffle steps back in your fight or your frame stance to get away

6. Vocalize your boundaries

7. Call for help


If someone bear hugs you from the side...

If you manage to have your hands free and someone hugs you from the side

1. Stay calm

2. Get into a low base stance

3. All at the same time (Shruging your shoulders, push arms up and lower stance will create space)

4. Pick a side Left or Right take one step to the outside (creating the space needed to break away from the bear hug)

5. Take two shuffle steps back in your fight or frame stance to get away

6. Vocalize your boundaries

7. Call for help


Depending on the situation you can follow up with a Eye poke, knee to body or groin area, stomps etc. If the frame is enough to keep the assailant away. Then take two steps back, verbalize your boundaries and call for help.

If someone front chokes you...

If someone front chokes you. Variation A: without a wall


1. Stay calm

2. Get into a fight stance

3. Bring your chin to your chest

4. Turn your body to any side (this will help you create space and break away)

5. Take two shuffle steps back in your fight or frame stance to get away

6. Vocalize your boundaries

7. Call for help




Variation B: If someone chokes you against a wall.


1. Stay calm

2. Low base stance

2.Tuck your chin into your chest

3. Both of your hands pull down on the choke to release some pressure

4. Use the wall to turn your body to any side (not trapping yourself against a corner)

5. Take two shuffle steps back in your fight or frame stance to get away

6. Vocalize your boundaries

7. Call for help
